In New Hampshire, light pollution poses a direct challenge to local wildlife, including 19 bird species and 34 additional species currently listed as endangered. This installation by Ligman Lighting USA was developed with a clear goal: provide effective site illumination while limiting skyglow, glare, and unnecessary uplight that disrupt natural behaviors and migration patterns.
The project uses Dark Sky–compliant luminaires engineered for controlled optical performance and strict cutoff. By directing light only where it is needed and eliminating upward spill, these fixtures reduce nighttime disturbance and help maintain the integrity of surrounding habitats. Warm color temperatures and precisely shaped distributions further support wildlife sensitivity while still delivering the required visibility for people navigating the site.
This approach demonstrates how thoughtful lighting design can support safety and usability without compromising the region’s fragile ecosystems. Through careful specification and disciplined light control, the installation protects local species while establishing a responsible model for outdoor illumination.
