EPA Example Calculation

Existing Pole: Model No. SPD-RSS-4512-14'-4.5" Dia .125" Height 14ft Diameter 4.5in Steel Pole 
Pole EPA Rating = [70 mph, 17.7], [80 mph, 13.2], [90 mph, 10.2], [100 mph, 8], [110 mph, 6.4] 
Proposed Fixtures: (2) luminaire fixtures with an EPA of 2.5 and (2) arms with an EPA of 0.3 
Calculation: [2 x 2.5] + [2 x 0.3] = 5.6. This calculation is less than the 6.4 rating.
Therefore, this configuration is suitable for wind zones up to 110 mph.

NOTES:
Effective Projected Area (EPA) in square feet. EPA’s calculated using wind velocity (mph) indicated plus 30% gust factor. EPA’s are calculated assuming 25 lbs. per square foot of EPA to a maximum of 100 lbs. Maximum EPA is based on the luminaire weight shown. Increased luminaire weight reduces the maximum EPA.
